Mailchimp is the one household brand AI search actually rewards

One of five brand teardowns from our audit of household names. Mailchimp topped the group at 72, with a citation rate ten times Notion's and zero fixes flagged.

The short answer

Mailchimp scored 72 out of 100, the highest of the five household brands we audited, with a 50% citation rate and no recommended fixes, which makes it the clearest example of what good AI visibility looks like.

72

Mailchimp's AI Visibility Score, the highest of the five household names we audited, and the only one our audit flagged zero fixes for.

This is one of five brand teardowns from our audit of household-name brands' AI visibility. Most of that study is about gaps. This one is the counterexample. We ran our standard audit on mailchimp.com, twelve email-marketing prompts across ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini, and it came out on top.

The citation number is the one to sit with. Mailchimp's own site was cited in half of its grounded answers. For comparison, Notion sat at 0% and HubSpot at 3%. When an engine answered an email-marketing question, half the time it was reading Mailchimp's own pages to do it. That is what authority looks like to a grounded model.

Mailchimp's own site was cited in half its answers. Notion's in none. Same audit, same three engines, wildly different presence.

It is not perfect, and that is useful

Mailchimp still missed 10 of 36 answers, and the misses are instructive. It fell out when the question shifted from email to SMS. On a prompt about user-friendly SMS marketing tools, Gemini named Brevo, TextMagic, SimpleTexting, and Twilio, with Mailchimp nowhere. Mailchimp does SMS now, but the engines have not caught up to that, which is a live example of the wrong-facts problem: the model's picture of you lags what you actually offer.

What Mailchimp does that the others don't

There is no single trick. Mailchimp has spent two decades as the default answer to "email tool for small business," which means the open web is thick with pages that name it, review it, and compare against it. Grounded engines read that consensus back. The lesson for a smaller brand is not to copy Mailchimp's size but to copy its shape: be the name the rest of the web keeps citing on one specific question, which is the whole playbook.

If you want to see how far the other four fell from this bar, the full five-brand study lays them out side by side. Mailchimp is what the top of that table can look like.

Questions

Does ChatGPT recommend Mailchimp?

Yes, consistently. Mailchimp appeared in 26 of 36 grounded answers across three engines and ChatGPT named it in 9 of its 12. It was the most reliably recommended of the five household brands we audited.

Why did Mailchimp score so much higher than the others?

Mostly its citation rate. At 50%, the engines frequently used mailchimp.com's own pages as the source, versus near-zero for Notion and HubSpot. Long-standing, widely-referenced presence in its category is what drives that, and it is the hardest part to fake.

Where does Mailchimp still lose?

On adjacent categories. When questions moved from email to SMS marketing, Mailchimp often dropped out in favor of SMS-first tools, even though it offers SMS. That is a lag in what the engines know about it, not a gap in the product.
