This is one of five brand teardowns from our audit of household-name brands' AI visibility. We ran our standard audit on webflow.com: twelve website-builder prompts across ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini, grounded with live web search, for 36 answers. Webflow had the most lopsided result in the whole study.
The numbers
| Metric | Webflow |
|---|---|
| AI Visibility Score | 46 / 100 |
| Answers it appeared in | 10 of 36 |
| Own site (webflow.com) cited | 8% |
| Average position when named | 1.5 (best in the study) |
| By engine (ChatGPT / Claude / Gemini) | 3 / 3 / 4 of 12 |
Read those two middle rows together. Webflow appeared in only 10 of 36 answers, the worst rate of the five brands. But when it did appear, its average position was 1.5, the best of anyone we audited. So the engines rate Webflow highly. They just do not bring it up. On a question about no-code web design tools, ChatGPT named Shopify, Wix, Squarespace, Figma, WordPress, and Weebly, and skipped Webflow, which is close to a definitional miss for a no-code design tool.
When Webflow shows up, it usually wins the answer. The problem is it barely shows up.
Who showed up instead
| Competitor | Answers it appeared in |
|---|---|
| Wix | 29 |
| Squarespace | 16 |
| Shopify | 14 |
| WordPress | 7 |
| Weebly | 6 |
Wix appeared in 29 of 36 answers to Webflow's 10. If you only watched AI answers, you would think Wix is the default and Webflow is a niche challenger, which is roughly the opposite of how designers talk about them. Webflow did win a head-to-head: Claude picked it over Squarespace on a direct comparison prompt. It can clearly hold the top spot. It just needs to be in the room first.
What we'd tell Webflow to fix
This is the rare case where the top fix is not citations. The audit flagged lifting baseline brand mentions as the priority, because a 28% mention rate means the engines default to other names before Webflow is even a candidate. The fix is presence in the roundups and comparison content where these queries get their answers, plus more inbound citations behind that. Since the quality signal is already there, Webflow arguably has the easiest path of the five: it does not need to win people over, it needs to get mentioned. That is the get-recommended playbook pointed at raw visibility.
